About Chess and Beyond

Chess and Beyond is a youth-led nonprofit dedicated to helping young people become thoughtful problem-solvers, confident leaders, and compassionate members of their communities through chess, education, mentorship, and service. It was founded by two public high school students in the Bronx, Jayden and Oliver.

We believe chess is more than a game. It is a powerful tool for learning, character development, and personal growth. Through chess, students strengthen critical thinking and problem-solving skills while developing perseverance, creativity, and confidence. Just as importantly, they learn sportsmanship, empathy, resilience, and respect for others.

These lessons reach far beyond the chessboard. They help young people succeed in school, build meaningful relationships, overcome challenges, and make positive contributions to their communities.

Our Mission

Our mission is to empower young people to think critically, grow with confidence, serve with kindness, and lead with purpose. We make chess education and play accessible to every student while expanding opportunities for mentorship and meaningful community engagement. We encourage students to apply what they learn on and off the chessboard by supporting others, strengthening their communities, and leading through both action and example.

By using chess as a gateway to intellectual growth and personal development, we aim to cultivate thoughtful problem-solvers who approach challenges with creativity, determination, and kindness.
